Monitoring of patients with MGUS/Paraprotein

UPDATE JUNE 2024

The monitoring of patients with MGUS was originally identified as a commissioning gap for a non-core service for LLR practices.

Following extensive discussion between Dr Mamta Garg (Consultant Haematologist at UHL) and ICB with the LMC, we can confirm an arrangement is now live and available for LLR practices to access the MGUS service.

Practices need to follow the below process for patients with MGUS to have long-term monitoring done by haematology.

  • For new patients you will need to arrange some baseline blood tests before referral (bloods done within 3 months). These will be available as a single ‘button’ on ICE, although this functionality has not yet been added.
  • For patients already diagnosed with MGUS who you wish to repatriate to the new haematology ‘DAWN’ service, blood tests undertaken with 3 months are needed before referral is accepted to minimise any delay for patients.

Any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the LMC office.
