Opportunity for a LLR Resident Doctor (GP Registrar) to join LMC Board

We are delighted to announce that the LMC board are looking to elect a Resident Doctor (GP Registrar) within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to join the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Local Medical Committee (LMC) Board for the next year. This is an exciting opportunity which we hope will contribute to your developmental learning and understanding of the landscape and politics of General Practice.  You will also become a Director of the LMC Limited Company.

This is a 12-month term, but the elected Resident Doctor would be welcome to stand again whilst still on the trainee programme in LLR.

Are you motivated and committed to represent, develop, and protect general practice?

All GP Registrars in LLR are eligible to self-nominate to stand for election if:

  • Currently a ST1, ST2 or ST3 connected to an LLR educational supervisor
  • Complete the self-nomination form and provide a statement of up to 200 words to be included on the election form.
  • Willing to abide by the LMC corporate documents, see below.
  • Eligible to be a Director of a Limited Company
  • Can commit to attend as much as possible of the LLR LMC monthly board meetings.

The following corporate documents have been attached in the link for your reference:

  • Resident Doctor (GP Registrar) committee member role description
  • LLR LMC constitution
  • LLR LMC code of conduct & Conflict of Interest policy

All LLR Resident Doctors (GP Registrars) will be eligible to vote and the Returning Officer for this election is Charlotte Woods (Operations Manager, LLR LMC).

The LMC has already engaged with GP Deanery who are supportive of GP trainees who wish to submit a self-nomination. The GP trainee will be able to request special leave to attend LMC board meetings – this is a learning opportunity for all, but there will be an expectation that the elected Resident Doctor will use the learning to feedback to other GP trainees on the role of the LMC and to raise the profile of LLR Resident Doctors and the LMC. However, it is important to note that whilst all ST years are eligible to apply for this role, due to the impact on the ST3 teaching programme a discussion with the Educational Supervisor and TPD must be undertaken to determine suitability for the role to avoid a negative impact on attaining completion of training.

Dr Praveen De Silva is about to finish his electoral term as LMC Board Member Resident Doctor (GP Registrar) but has offered to speak to any trainees around the role – praveen.desilva1@nhs.net
