The LLR LMC supports practices and their teams to ensure they have access to advice, guidance, pastoral support, and appropriate resources. The PSS (Pastoral Support Service) is a confidential service which is available to GPs and their teams in LLR.
The LMC has agreed to formalise and clarify the service that is currently provided, by establishing a Pastoral Support Service (PSS) led by a LLR LMC GP lead board member (GP Lead for Pastoral Care – GPLPC).
The LMC receives lots of different questions and addresses different areas of work relating to General Practice every day, the PSS provides confidential advice and support to GPs for more personalised issues within the partnership/practice. The LMC will triage all cases when received into the PSS or another appropriate pathway.
The GPLPC will manage this area of work and is independent to the day to day running, and can cover a variety of different areas, subject to availability:
- Partnership disputes
- Practice disputes
- Pastoral Support
- NHSE Performance processes (PAG & PDLP)
- Signposting to trusted local coaching/mentoring organisations.
- Regulatory issues such as GMC hearings or CQC inspections
- Performers List issues
The PSS will provide confidential and comprehensive support for General Practitioners (GPs) who find themselves facing performance issues, particularly those involving NHS England (NHSE) and called for Performance Advisory Group (PAG) and Performance Development and Learning Plan (PDLP) meetings, and the General Medical Council.
The PSS is available to offer GPs and their team, guidance and assurance throughout any challenges and difficulties they find themselves currently facing at that moment in time. Additionally, the PSS will support GPs involved in conflicts and potential partnership disputes. This will also include Salaried GPs when they feel they need support or guidance related to practice matters.
Dr Shiraz Makda has been the lead for this service on an ad hoc basis for many years, and we are pleased to announce that he has accepted to undertake the role of GPLPC for at least the remainder of this electoral term.
DISCLAIMER: It is important to note that the LMC does not offer, accountancy, financial, HR, legal or any other professional advice and this should be sought independently.
