CQC & Safeguarding event for Practice Managers – Tuesday 4th March 2025

24 January 2025

We are pleased to confirm that the LMC will be hosting a re-run of the CQC and Safeguarding event for Practice Managers on Tuesday 4th March 2025, 1.30 –  3.30pm. Please note this is a re-run of the session in January 2025.

The session will be delivered in two parts:

  1. CQC session on common inspection findings will be delivered by Vanessa Twigg & Brandon Brine, CQC Inspectors
    • Registration questions – including a portal update, how to add new people to your partnership, how to add new services to your registration, and if practice managers should be registered managers
    • Clarity on clinical supervision – how often it should be completed, how to document it, and whose responsibility is it for ARRs roles.
    • Mandatory training – how often should this be completed – SG, BLS, L&D
    • Staff immunisation clarity – recent inspection conflicts with mythbuster
    • Inspections – how they are currently working
    • Will the 2015 inspections be reinspected by March?
    • Rumours & consultants.
    • Top 5 areas to be covered on inspection
    • Top 5 areas that trip people up
  1. Safeguarding training for practice managers will be delivered by Dr Amit Rastogi, LMC Board Member & LLR GP Named Safeguarding lead

Safeguarding is an integral part of working in general practice in the UK. GPs and general practice staff have distinct expertise and experience in providing whole person medical care whilst managing the complexity, uncertainty and risk associated with the continuous care they provide. Safeguarding is simply part of this holistic care. Victims and survivors of abuse are frequently in contact with general practice and GPs, and general practice staff often go to great lengths to safeguard their patients. Safeguarding is often described as a jigsaw puzzle with general practice holding one of the important parts of that puzzle. General practice are one of the key multi-agency safeguarding partners who work together to prevent, and stop, abuse and neglect from happening.

The practice manager (or equivalent position) plays a vital role in all aspects of general practice, including safeguarding. They are integral to effective safeguarding within the practice and includes an awareness of Safeguarding and safer recruitment procedures:

  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
  • References
  • Safeguarding included in all job descriptions
  • Obtaining evidence of a person’s right to work in the UK.

This session will support PMs in providing the necessary guidance to support their practices in Child and Adult Safeguarding procedures as well as their own Practice Manager responsibilities. There will be ample time to ask questions to the Named Professionals for Safeguarding in LLR.

The face-to-face session is open to all practice managers as well as anyone who leads on CQC and Safeguarding within a practice at management level. We have a capacity of 50 for this event and it will be a first come first served basis.

Any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the LMC office.
