PCN Leadership Development Programme

Primary Care and Primary Care Networks

The key challenge faced by different organisations is to nurture a culture that ensures the delivery of continuous improvement of high quality as well as safe and compassionate healthcare. Leadership is the most influential factor in shaping organisational culture. Therefore, it is fundamental to ensure the necessary leadership behaviour strategies and qualities are developed. We currently have different leadership offers to support our Primary Care leaders and managers at all levels within the multidisciplinary workforce. Our programme offer is focused on design and delivery and the impact on the individual (I), team working (We), organisation and the system (Us) of healthcare delivery.

Primary Care Network Leadership Development Programme

This PCN Leadership Development Programme will equip and enable Primary Care Leaders to confidently work with others beyond the boundaries of their immediate organisation to consider their impact across networks and systems. It will aim to support the development of PCNs, valuing the co-production of health and wellbeing of people and communities with the aim to push forward service transformation to deliver better, safer and more effective care. It will integrate learning activities which will help to maximise team performance and develop the capability to master the challenges and opportunities faced. The course is designed to run over a series of 5 virtual workshops to be held throughout March and April. The programme is further supported by access to a Learning Portal which will provide access to a wide range of tools and learning which will assist the delegate in establishing, developing, and driving a thriving PCN. The programme is suitable for Clinical Directors, Board Members, GP’s, Dentists, Pharmacists and ARRS roles. Link to register for the different cohorts: Cohort 1; Cohort 2 and Cohort 3

Primary Care Network (PCN) masterclass

The overall aim is to improve confidence founded on a greater understanding of what it takes to make a great team. Subjects covered will include diversity, talent management, leadership, working at Scale with Stakeholders, communication, teamwork, courage and change with delegates being given access to a learning portal containing many tools and support materials which can be applied in our daily lives.

Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority Primary Care Sponsorship Programme

Are you a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic woman in Primary Care who is committed to developing their career and leadership potential?

Or are you a leader in Primary, Secondary or Social Care who wants to recognise and support the potential of BAME women, create more equity in career progression and develop yourself as an inclusive leader? You will learn how to use your connections and influence to actively support your sponsees career development. This could include helping your sponsee extend their network, make connections, identify opportunities and personally advocating for them.

The Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority Primary Care Sponsorship programme is being delivered in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ambitions of the Long-Term Plan and NHS People Plan. Throughout the pandemic, leaders have had to operate beyond their comfort zone. Leaders at all levels have risen to the challenge in what has been an unprecedented year for the NHS. We need to recognise this talent; unleash their potential and we can do this through the power of sponsorship. For this to be effective, individuals need to be upskilled in the delivery of sponsorship-led interventions. For example: developing their leadership capabilities as sponsors who are compassionate, inclusive and distributive; to support innovation, new ways of working and sustainability; and support them in developing behaviours that enable them to deal with issues of equality, diversity and inclusion, particularly in the current context.

Across the NHS in the Midlands, too few BAME women are reaching senior leadership positions at the very top of their organisations. A significant reason for this is that they are not getting the high-profile leadership and learning opportunities that are often the steppingstone into more senior roles.

Inclusion is a complex issue, with women and people from minority backgrounds experiencing a wide range of systemic progression challenges. These barriers stem from unequal power structures, unconscious bias and a lack of formal support.

11 ICS areas across the Midlands are committed to addressing the lack of representation of female BAME leaders (predominantly from Primary Care settings) through a proactive and groundbreaking sponsorship programme.

DISC team profile

Midlands Leadership Academy are supporting the use of the DiSC tool to support the development of teams. The use of this tool will help the individual team members understand their own preferences and provides a baseline for supporting wider understanding across a team. DiSC is self-assessment psychometric tool delivered through the Wiley “Everything DiSC” system in partnership with The Fruitful Toolbox. This tool uses adaptive testing to ensure results are consistent with the model and has high levels of reliability, validity and credibility. DiSC profiles describe human behaviour in various situations and provides additional insight into yourself and your colleagues, including how you interact as a team. If you and your team, require this type of input to help strengthen your communication and individual /team awareness then do get in touch and we can discuss this offer with you.
